Financial Distribution for Overseas Mission projects 2012-2013
St Kisito Parish, Togo gives “a big thank you” as lives are
changed through literacy program
The generosity of our benefactors continues to provide
much-needed funds for distribution to our missionary
ministries in overseas countries.
As you can see from the chart, in the past financial year,
the Mission Office of the SVD AUS Province has directed
funds to countries right across the world.
The Divine Word Missionaries appreciate your ongoing
support, however small or large and give thanks to God
for you, our co-missionaries.
Your donation really does change lives, like those of
the people of St Kisito Parish in the Kara Diocese in the
northern part of Togo.
Fr Aluku Jean-Marie Vianney SVD has written to thank the
AUS Province for its support of an adult literacy program
in the parish.
“The parish has seven villages where many people do
not have formal education,” Fr Aluku says. “That is, they
do not know how to read and write, either in the national
language of French or N’tcham, the local language.”
The literacy program, which started in 2012 aimed to help
people from this area to read and write the N’tcham and
French languages.
“We sought your help and you favourably responded
as much you could,” Fr Aluku says. “We are grateful to
you for having understood our call and responded to our
need; may the Triune God sustain your daily endeavours.”
Fr Aluku says the adult literacy project has given new life
to the parish as well, with many people now committed to
giving the liturgical readings, especially during the festive
periods in the Church.
“An example is during Holy Week where the story of
the Passion is read. This was hitherto done with great
difficulty,” he says.
“We say a big thank you, and we plead with you to think
of us as we prepare to tackle the last zone of our pastoral
area where only Konkomba is spoken.
“May God bless you!”
